Electricity Bonus 2023

St Kilda Community Housing successfully negotiated with the State Government on behalf of our renters for the 2023 Power Saving Bonus. This delivered $120,000, a much-needed bonus of $500 each for our renters.

Energy Bill Relief Fund 2024

The 2024 Energy Bill Relief Fund is now live, and unlike in previous years, every Australian household is eligible for $300 over four rounds of $75. It’s a simple and effective way to rapidly assist us all as we navigate the current cost of living crisis. All you need is an electricity bill. Unfortunately, that means many of the poorest people in our community, those that really need a lift, will miss out.

At St Kilda Community Housing we provide homes to single people on the lowest incomes, many of whom have experienced major challenges in their pasts, including homelessness. Our homes are unmetered, and our renters pay for their utilities as a part of their rent. This is common in modest social housing. Because our renters do not have a personal electricity bill, they may miss out on this bonus.

Our local Federal MP, Josh Burns – Federal Member for Macnamara, is assisting us to negotiate the complications in Canberra. You can be sure that when we work through the details, we will share the solution with other agencies that support people doing it tough. Josh gets it. Thanks Josh. We believe that Federal and State assistance packages should be targeted primarily to those that genuinely need it.

Until we get this problem sorted, the easiest way to ensure that the Energy Bill Relief Fund assists those genuinely in need, is to donate your personal bonuses to grass roots agencies, working hard at the coal face of disadvantage and homelessness – Yes, that is a strong hint to donate the funds to us!
