St Kilda Community Housing aims to establish a communal vegetable garden to tenants who have expressed an interest in helping collaborate and maintain these spaces. These gardens will help in establishing community collaboration in food security for these properties. As well as, upholding sustainable development goals such as good health, wellbeing and responsible consumption of food.

Benefits of this program include:

  • Physical – consuming fresh produce or doing light physical activity around the garden
  • Mental – to be outdoors and a chance to socialise and to relax
  • Spiritual – creating a space that enables us to connect with nature.

Jackson St was the perfect starting point for the garden as it was such a large space with so much potential and had the foundations of a successful veggie garden already. We have partnered with Bunnings Warehouse in Port Melbourne who have provided us with everything that we needed. The garden beds have now all be set up. All help is welcomes to maintain the garden, as all renters will have access to the space and produce.

If you are interested in helping to maintain the gardens please contact housing@stkch.org.au or call 9534 1809
