Beach House Redevelopment

St Kilda Community Housing (SCH) is planning to undertake a full internal refurbishment of its Little Grey Street property, the Beach House, converting it into 22 fully self-contained units for low income singles and individuals who are homeless or at risk
of homelessness.

The redevelopment of the Beach House is part of our ongoing property upgrade and redevelopment program.  Jointly funded by the State Government and SCH, it is anticipated that the capital works will commence mid-2019 with the project to be completed by 2020.

Farewell to Anne Laffan

Anne Laffan commenced working for St Kilda Community Housing when it was called St Kilda Rooming House Issues Group 31 years ago.

It would be wrong to see this, as sometimes happens when a person retires, as 31 years of service. Anne didn’t serve anybody. A point to which the various managers she had along the way would hastily testify. Service is far too instrumental a concept to capture what Anne was on about; maybe even issues is similarly too narrow.

Social meals

Incorporating the preparation of a meal and a shared dining experience, encouraging social interaction, and informal support and friendship networks between rooming house residents, the social meals program aims to increase rooming house residents’ knowledge of and connection with local support services and low cost recreational activities, as well as teaching vital cooking skills.
